knitting, wool, crochet and more

Oh what to do with an ill daughter who needs to stay in bed? As a sign of solidarity stay in bed too, that was my thought this morning.

Finally I had time to peruse my latest Landscape magazine which I did, almost cover to cover, until I reached the article about Amanda Perkins who crochets the most beautiful blankets.Screen Shot 2016-02-18 at 11.11.53.png

I just love, love, love the colours! The best is still to come – Amanda’s blankets will be exhibited at the Unravel Fair at the Farnham Maltings this weekend! Oh yes, I have planned to visit.

The fair is on all weekend (Friday – Sunday) I have visited the last two years and can thoroughly recommend you do too. It is small enough to manage and big enough to maintain the interest, the most lovely wools and inspiration galore.

Well what is left to say, but to see you there (thank goodness husband can look after ill daughter)

AWBS Christmas Craft and Gift Fayre

Hello…..

I know it has been a while since my last post, but I have been busy, busy, busy preparing my stock for the AWBS Christmas Craft and Gift Fair this Friday, 7th November, 10am – 4pm,  at the Ascot Racecourse Pavilion.

You are able to download a two for one coupon on the website too.

This is a fair organised by AWBS (American Women of Berkshire and Surrey). I have had the pleasure of being a visitor in the past and have always walked away with some stunning gifts, some for myself, and some for others.

All proceeds to benefit local charities.

Have a look at the vendor list, they are not all seasonal, there will be plenty for every body.

I will have my stall in HALL 2, stall number 75, please come and visit!

Here is a little preview of what I have on offer.

My lovely tank top

Hello

yes I finally completed my lovely tank top and have worn it too.

What started like this…..

….is now looking like this.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this and am enjoying wearing it even more.

I had to learn how to do the icrod finish and can honestly say that is it a lot easier than I thought.A lovely way to finish edges of any kind. A great tutorial can also be found on the Purl Bee website.

Just to remind you the pattern comes from Purl Bee my favourite website at the moment, and the wool is from Eden Cottage Yarns, bought through Loop.

What next I ask? No need to search for too long, Purl Bee have all the inspiration needed and before I know what is knitting, I’m in the middle of my next project. Or should I say projects? I’m in the middle of knitting a variegated snood

varigated cowl (another of Purl Bee’s creations) a silky mohair jacket inspired by Debbie Bliss and trying to get to grips with some linen wool I bought in the summer.

Event of the week must be the Knitting & Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, London this weekend. (8-12 October)

I visited last year and was overwhelmed by the volume and beauty of what was on offer. Unfortunately I will not be able to visit this year 😦

However there is still the Farnham Maltings Festival of Crafts next weekend (18&19th October) I quite fancy going to have a look at what promises to be a very inspirational  fair.

oooohhhh so much to do, I love it.

Hope you are having a great week too

Free Patterns, Fairs and other bits

Good morning

It might be half-term for us in the UK, but that means more time to research and to knit of coarse.

I  spent some of my time on Pinterest, my favourite site of all, and found this fun website. mystylerules.com

You key in your measurements and it will tell you which style of clothing suites your body shape the best. Not that we don’t know that already, a little bit of fun if you have too much time on your hands. It is half-term after all.

As you might know, I love to knit and one of my favourite stores, if not the best store ever, is Loop based in Islington, London.

It is so beautiful, with so many choices of wool and gorgeous patterns. I receive their email updates, which I look forward to. There are often free patterns with advice and many other interesting information.

Which leads me to Kate, who is in knitting mania, creating one beautiful hat after another.Kate hat 2

Will we be getting the colder weather to sport our new creations?

If you have some spare time this weekend (21.22.23 February): Unravel….a festival of knitting at the Farnham Maltings, is the place to go. It looks  good and I’m sure will be very inspiring.

If you enjoy embroidery Caroline Zoob ( I have one of her books: The Hand Stitched Home) is hosting some workshops in a private house near Guilford, Surrey.

I would like to make just about every project in her book.

email sales@carolinezoob.co.uk or telephone 07929 826052 for more info

So back to the couch and my knitting…………..I wish this would be the case. It will have to be the house work first,  but I have my girls home to help, if and when they decide to part with their beds 🙂

Have a great week

Fairs and a little more

another week has flown by and I can only now feel that I’m recovering from the excitement of being at the Knit and Stitch Fair at London Alexandra Palace. I was so overwhelmed by all the lovely yarns and products on offer that I found it difficult to choose or make a rational decision on any.
One of the first stands I visited was Namolio a beautiful store which specialises in mostly linen supplies for sewing, knitting, crocheting and other related crafts. Have a look at the lovely colours.Namolio
They will also be having a stall at “Thread” exhibition and show on November 3rd at Farnham Maltings. I’m sure this will be worth a visit.

I also finally had the opportunity to see Habu (a Japanese supplier specialising in “different” yarns, stainless steel, paper, linen to mention only a few)in all it’s glory. The yarns are all so beautiful it is just not possible to like only one. Fortunately they sold little sample packs. I did feel like a child in a sweetie shop.

If you are in the mood to go browsing there is also the Contemporary Craft&Design Fair at Wellington College 25-27th October

We have some new members at our craft classesAngi wool and were once again celebrating a birthday.Kate1 bday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kate1!
Rachel completed the most beautiful scarf. Lots of beautifully designed and crocheted rounds stitched together to make a scarf.Rachel scarf

The lovely thing about anything hand made, there will always only be one like it, never to be repeated. I know it is easy to buy on the high street, just doesn’t have the same feel, does it?

Wishing you a crafty weekend. I will be trying to transform our rather unsightly cupboard doors……wish me luck

happy crafting
